Junk Food can impact on Male reproductive system
Scientists have found that frequently eating pizza and chips can make men sterile. According to doctors from Harvard University and the University of Murcia, a diet high in trans fat can damage sperm, so the impact on the male reproductive system. The study was conducted by analyzing sperm 188 men aged 18-22.
Before the study, the participants were analyzed to ensure there are no other health factors that can affect their sperm quality. Based on questionnaires filled foods, the participants were included in two categories, namely, Äúbarat, Äù (foods rich in red meat, refined carbohydrates, sweets, and energy drinks) and, Äúbijaksana, Äù (foods rich in fish, fruits, vegetables, and grain- grains). Tests of cement was then performed to assess the movement, shape, and the viscosity level of sperm.
The result, groups, Äúbijaksana, Äù has a more rapid movement of sperm, whereas sperm in the male category, Äúbarat, Äù aka poor diet has been found less likely to survive the journey to fertilize an egg.
“The main finding of our study is a healthy diet is beneficial to the quality of semen, Äù said Audrey Gaskins as the author of the study, as reported by Dailymail, Sunday (October 23, 2011).
“In particular, a healthy diet consisting of high intake of fish, fresh fruit, grains, nuts, and vegetables enhance raced and sperm counts,” he added about the research being presented this week at the annual meeting of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM).
Dr. Audrey emphasized the importance of further studies to explore the precise correlation between nutrition and fertility. “It was a small study and we do not know maybe there is something in men that causes them to deteriorate fertility, Äù he said.
“We do not know if nutrition really cause a change, but for now, we can say that there is a connection between nutrition and quality of sperm,” he concluded.
