This research was conducted on 1045 people aged between 15 to 64 years old and come from various economic groups in four major cities of Indonesia.
“More than 50 percent of Indonesia realizes that they have sensitive teeth, but do not follow up in order to overcome the teeth sensitive,” said Varina Merdekawaty, Pepsodent Sensitive Brand Manager Expert, at the launch “Pepsodent Sensitive Expert”, some time ago.
The same is also expressed Drg Day Perio Sunarto Sp (K), faculty in the Department Periodonsia Faculty of Dentistry, University of Indonesia. Currently Indonesia is a lot of people who experience these problems. Although more than 50 percent of Indonesia realizes it has sensitive teeth, they do not follow up in order to cope.
Many also consider dental health problems that interfere only in the cavities, tartar, and complaints because of aesthetic dental treatment (braces), rather than sensitive teeth are more often ignored. “Sensitive teeth have diverse causes. However, the main causes of sensitive teeth is the opening of small channels on tooth dentin tubule are often referred to,” he said.
Many people have wrong perceptions about the causes of sensitive teeth. Typically, they blame the food hot, cold, acid, and sweet as the culprit. However, it is wrong because all these foods just triggers. Meanwhile, the cause is the opening of small channels on tooth dentin that is often called the tubule.
Tubule dentin is open and exposed to stimuli that produce a sense of pain in the teeth thus changing the direction of movement of fluid in the tubule dentin are forward to the sensor nerves. Because of the sensitive teeth, 1 in 3 people suffer from pain due to dentine hypersensitivity. Meanwhile, the part most susceptible to tooth sensitivity is the canine teeth, small molars, and molars. In addition, the teeth of the left hand more often feel the pain than the right.
“Because of a sharp sense of pain that makes a lot of people end up eating your favorite foods afraid,” he said.
Pain due to tooth sensitivity lasts shorter, but its intensity sharply and repeatedly each time the teeth exposed to stimuli. To ignore the pain caused by sensitive teeth, there are several ways, one of them by choosing the right toothpaste. Choose a special toothpaste for sensitive teeth optimal in relieving pain due to sensitive teeth in 30 seconds and protect longer. Toothpaste is meant containing materials, such as hydroxyapatite (HAP) mineral, potassium citrate, zinc citrate, and fluoride.
Besides the selection of toothpaste, also select a brush that suits your needs and do brush your teeth regularly with a right way and still be routinely performed for oral and dental hygiene. “Brush your teeth properly, ie move your toothbrush in the mouth is circular and select a fluffy brush to remove plaque on the teeth,” said the former Director of the Hospital Dental Education Faculty of Dentistry, University of Indonesia.
Do not forget to control your teeth regularly to the dentist at least 6 months. This is to ensure that complaints of pain because of tooth sensitivity arises not as a result of dental cavities.
